Web application firewall implementation and operational support

We provide ModSecurity consulting, deployment, configuration, tuning, and technical support. We help organizations introduce and maintain a web application firewall engine within their web delivery architecture, with controlled rule changes and useful operational visibility.

A practical foundation for your team

Our services address the selected engine version, compatible web server connector, rules, and the applications being protected. We work with your application, infrastructure, and security teams to test inspection behavior, investigate alerts, and manage the effect of controls on legitimate traffic.

A web application firewall needs configuration and ongoing attention to be useful. Request handling, ruleset compatibility, false positives, logging, and performance must be evaluated against the applications receiving the traffic.

We help establish that operating process, including how rules are introduced, tested, tuned, and rolled back when required.

What we do

Our ModSecurity Services

01 / 10

Architecture and Compatibility Assessment

Determine where ModSecurity should inspect traffic in the web delivery path. We review the web server or proxy, engine and connector compatibility, application protocols, and logging requirements before recommending an implementation approach.

  • Web traffic architecture review
  • Engine and connector assessment
  • Inspection coverage planning
  • Deployment dependency mapping

02 / 10

Engine and Connector Deployment

Prepare ModSecurity with the compatible connector selected for the environment. We configure the engine, verify request inspection, and document build or package dependencies and operational settings so that the deployment can be maintained through later changes.

  • Engine installation and configuration
  • Web server connector integration
  • Inspection validation
  • Deployment documentation

03 / 10

Ruleset Integration and Configuration

Introduce the chosen ruleset, including Core Rule Set (CRS) where selected, with clear configuration ownership. We review rule loading, compatibility, and enforcement settings, then validate that requests are inspected as intended before progressing to wider use.

  • Ruleset installation
  • Rule loading and ordering review
  • Detection and blocking configuration
  • Functional inspection testing

04 / 10

False-Positive Analysis and Rule Tuning

Investigate legitimate requests that trigger inspection rules. We examine the request context and matched rule, then develop the narrowest practical adjustment and test it so that usability improvements do not unnecessarily weaken other inspection coverage.

  • Alert and request analysis
  • Targeted rule exclusions
  • Application-specific tuning
  • Regression and coverage testing

05 / 10

Application and API Inspection

Validate inspection behavior against the application's actual request formats and workflows. We review request bodies, upload handling, supported parsers, and relevant limits, documenting gaps and dependencies that need attention elsewhere in the application architecture.

  • Request format assessment
  • API and upload testing
  • Parser and body-limit review
  • Application workflow validation

06 / 10

Performance and Resource Tuning

Assess the operational effect of inspection under representative traffic. We review processing overhead, request limits, logging volume, and resource behavior, then test configuration changes that balance inspection requirements with application response and platform capacity.

  • Traffic and resource analysis
  • Inspection latency testing
  • Limit and logging configuration
  • Load validation

07 / 10

Audit Logging and Incident Investigation

Make inspection events useful for investigation and operational follow-up. We configure appropriate logging and integration with the selected monitoring or security platform, with care for sensitive request content and the information needed to explain a rule match.

  • Audit log configuration
  • Event collection integration
  • Sensitive field handling review
  • Rule match investigation

08 / 10

Upgrades and Ruleset Change Management

Plan changes to the engine, connector, and rules as a coordinated activity. We assess compatibility, stage and test updates, and prepare rollback procedures so that the team can validate both inspection behavior and legitimate application access after a release.

  • Dependency compatibility review
  • Engine and rule update testing
  • Staged deployment procedures
  • Rollback and post-change checks

09 / 10

Technical Support

Get help with unexpected request blocks, connector issues, rule loading errors, missing audit events, parser problems, and inspection performance concerns. We examine the available evidence, coordinate investigation across the relevant components, and help your team identify corrective actions.

Support arrangements define the covered environment, service hours, communication channels, priorities, and escalation process. This gives your team a clear route for requesting assistance and following an issue through investigation, validation, and closure.

  • Incident investigation and troubleshooting
  • Configuration and integration assistance
  • Root-cause analysis within the agreed scope
  • Resolution guidance and incident documentation

10 / 10

Training and Knowledge Transfer

Build practical understanding of engine configuration, rule interpretation, targeted exclusions, audit analysis, connector maintenance, and change validation. We tailor sessions to the environment and the responsibilities of the people developing, administering, and supporting it.

Workshops can use your configuration, representative examples, and agreed operating scenarios. Documentation and runbook walkthroughs help your team apply the knowledge after the engagement.

  • Role-focused technical workshops
  • Configuration and workflow walkthroughs
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance guidance
  • Documentation and operational handover

A practical approach to ModSecurity

We test inspection using legitimate application workflows as well as agreed attack examples. Tuning decisions are tied to specific rules and request contexts, with records that explain the adjustment and make later ruleset reviews more manageable.

We agree the work and acceptance checks with your team, validate changes in a suitable environment, and document the outcome. Clear handover makes the configuration, operating procedures, and next actions easier to maintain after delivery.

Supported Versions and Support Hours

Supported versions

Versions below were confirmed against upstream release information on 15 October 2026. We reconfirm them at the start of each engagement.

  • ModSecurity v3 (3.0.16) with the nginx connector (1.0.4), and Core Rule Set 4.25 LTS. ModSecurity v2 on Apache is assessed case by case.

Support hours

Standard support is delivered in business hours, Monday to Saturday, India Standard Time. Coverage hours, response targets and escalation steps for each severity are defined in the service agreement. Upstream response times are outside our control.
